Hannah Norwood from Lawrenceville, Ga., and the Brenau Golden Tigers Soccer Team Receive National Academic Honors

2011 Sep 26

Hannah Norwood from Lawrenceville, Ga., is a member of the Brenau University Golden Tigers Soccer team that was named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics rankings for top Scholar Team awards.

Norwood was a freshman defender on the Golden Tigers team whose participants collectively scored well enough in the classroom during the 2010-11 academic year to earn the prestigious national honor for student athletes. To be eligible for the honor, all team members must post grade point averages that result in an overall team GPA of more than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Six of Brenau's eight varsity programs qualified for NAIA Scholar Team awards: cross country, coached by Susan McIntyre, 3.21; soccer, coached by Athletics Director Mike Lochstampfor, 3.14; softball, coached by Devon Thomas, 3.25; swimming, coached by Blaire Bachman, 3.0; tennis, coached by Andre Ferreira, 3.45; and volleyball, coached by Meredith Franklin, 3.34.

"Brenau University in the past few years has put intercollegiate teams on the field that compete nationally in various sports, and we are extremely proud of that fact," said Brenau President Ed Schrader. "But it is a source of special pride that we have the Scholar Team distinction for six of our teams. It demonstrates that these well-rounded young women have their priorities straight as student athletes: student first and athlete second."
